UVHS Celebrates Gold Democracy Award & Make Your Mark Results
Earlier this year, UVHS students from Y7-Y13 took part in the Make Your Mark Ballot 2024.
This is the largest consultation of 11-18 year olds across Europe, and is held every two years to give young people the opportunity to vote on what is important to them.
We are delighted to announce we were granted a Gold Democracy award from Westmorland and Furness Council, the highest commendation given to schools for our exemplary participation in the student vote.
So, what did our pupil population vote as a priority area they would like to see improved across Europe, and how does this compare to the UK results?
Priority | UVHS Result | UK Wide Result |
---|---|---|
1st Place | Jobs, economy and benefits | Health and wellbeing |
2nd Place | Health and wellbeing | Crime and safety |
3rd Place | Climate change and the environment | Culture, media and sport |
In total, 6,076 young people voted in Westmorland and Furness out of 526,573 nationally. UVHS students accounted for an incredible 17% of all votes cast in our part of Cumbria, showcasing the value our pupils have for the opportunities to exercise their right to give a democratic vote as part of active citizenship and British Values.
Both the “Make Your Mark 2024” results report and a breakdown detailing how each year group voted can be found attached at the bottom of the article.
