Keeping Children Safe & Healthy
Our Personal Development curriculum gives students knowledge of a wide variety of topics to help them prepare for both the positive opportunities they will have as they grow up, as well as the risks and difficult decisions they may have to navigate as they enter adulthood.
You can find a comprehensive overview of Personal Development at UVHS here.
As parents and carers in a fast and ever-changing world, we appreciate that it can be difficult to find up-to-date and reliable sources of information online. The guides below span a wide range of topics and will be updated frequently.
These guides are very informative and if you have any suggestions for other topics of information sources you would like to see on this section of the school website, then please use the following email address to get in touch, as we always value your feedback: enquiries@uvhs.uk

Every Life Matters Training - Y10 & Y12
-
During the Autumn and Spring term 2024/25, students in Y10 and Y12 took part in two workshops with Vikki and Sarah from the Every Life Matters team.
UVHS are committed to ensuring all students across KS3 - 5 have the tools they need to:
- Identify changes in their own mental health,
- Feel confident to reach out to trusted adults and support agencies,
- Access a variety of resources both in and out of school.
-
Though our Personal Development curriculum covers the PSHE content relating to health, wellbeing and relationships, it is always fantastic to welcome in The ELM team to give current and meaningful training to both staff and students on:
- Mental health
- What to do if you are worried about someone
- What to do if you or someone you know if self-harming
- What to do if you or someone else is contemplating suicide
- Bereavement support
The Every Life Matters programme aims to:
- Better prepare secondary school communities to protect against, identify and manage suicide
- Help prepare a generation of young people to become more emotionally resilient as they grow into adulthood.
Every Life Matters was formed in 2019 by a group of people who wanted to take a long-term and concerted approach to reducing deaths by suicide in Cumbria. This included people bereaved by suicide, or those who had experienced thoughts of suicide themselves. Their website is full of excellent guidance and information here: https://www.every-life-matters.org.uk/
